Why buy a rocking moses basket stand?
The biggest selling point of this type of stand is that newborn babies love to be rocked. When they were safely cocooned in their mother's womb her movements gently lulled them to sleep, and this tendency to fall asleep when in motion continues for several months after the birth. This is why a crying or tired baby will often quieten or doze off when in their pushchair, a car or are simply being rocked in their parent's arms.
While a rocking stand is not essential, it can make life a little easier for parents and carers. A baby that has been rocked to sleep in his or her parent's arms will often wake the second they feel themselves being lowered into the moses basket. This is not a problem if you have a rocking stand. When the baby stirs at night they can often be rocked back to sleep quickly and easily, (as long as they do not need a feed or change of course), without needing to be picked up. Many parents find a rocker vastly improves sleep - which can make both parent and baby happier!
Many rocking moses basket stands can also be locked into position for static use.
Are there any disadvantages to consider?
With a very small number of exceptions, most rocking moses basket stands cannot be folded down when not in use. If you plan to have the stand out at all times this may not be an issue, but it is a point to consider if space is limited in your home. Non-folding models are also bulkier to carry and this lack of portability can be a problem if you want to move the moses basket from room to room during the day to keep your baby close to you.
How much do rocking moses basket stands cost?
Prices range up to about £40 for a luxury stand. In general, we recommend people do not spend too much on their moses basket stand as there is very little difference in practicality and sturdiness when it comes to price. However, this is not so much the case with rocking models and it is a good idea to pay a little more as the cheaper versions tend not to rock particularly well.
